Can't get private networking working in Help

edited April 2018 in Help
I have two Ubuntu 16.04 instances in New Jersey which I'll label A and B. Both of them were created with the "Private networking" feature turned on.

On the Manage, Settings page, I'm getting the following private network details:

A: Address: 10.1.96.3, Netmask: 255.255.240.0, Gateway: Not applicable
B: Address: 10.1.96.4, Netmask: 255.255.240.0, Gateway: Not applicable

Per the instructions, I have edited the /etc/network/interface file for each as follows

A:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto ens3
iface ens3 inet dhcp
iface ens3 inet6 auto

auto ens7
iface ens7 inet static
address 10.1.96.3
netmask 255.255.240.0
mtu 1450

B:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto ens3
iface ens3 inet dhcp
iface ens3 inet6 auto

auto ens7
iface ens7 inet static
address 10.1.96.4
netmask 255.255.240.0
mtu 1450

I'm not able to ping B using "ping 10.1.96.4" from A or vice versa. UFW is disabled on both machines. Any help would be appreciated.
