Restore Ubuntu Compute Snapshot to High Frequency Compute Instance and keep IP address

I would like to move the current Ubuntu server Instance on Compute to High Frequency Compute of the same size and configuration.

This article describes cloning https://www.vultr.com/docs/cloning-a-virtual-server-with-vultr but it requires changing the ip address. Because of Cloudflare and DNS, perhaps it is easier to avoid changing the IP.

If the IP Address is added to a reserved IP address and then a new High Frequency Compute instance is created, Can the ip Address be removed from the reserved IP status to avoid the $3/month fee charged or will the ip change once it is removed ?

  • Usually, the IP address should remain the same if you perform the process you've described. DHCP assigns the address, and if the IP address is important, it's a good idea to use a reserved IP address.
