gem install - network is unreachable? in Help

edited April 2016 in Help
When I try to run gem install [some-package-from-rubygems.org], I get this surprising error:

ERROR: While executing gem ... (Errno::ENETUNREACH)
Network is unreachable - sendto(2) for "2001:19f0:300:1704::6" port 53

I recognise that as Vultr's IPv6 DNS address. If I disable that address in /etc/resolv.conf, or put it underneath the IPv4 address, I'm able to install gems. Any idea why?

  • That sounds like your IPv6 connectivity is broken. We'd suggest looking at your IPv6 configuration.
